Bill Ogletree Biography
Bill Ogletree was born in Houston, Texas in 1947 and attended High School at Mary Brantley Smiley High School in the Northeast Houston Independent School District.
In high school Bill Ogletree played in the concert and marching band and excelled in history and government courses. After high school Bill Ogletree attended the University of Houston where he majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at the University of Houston.
After college Bill Ogletree met his wife-to-be Norma Dowell at the University of Houston Baptist Student Union. They were married in 1969 and were blessed with two children and now two grandchildren.
In 1971 Bill Ogletree began working at Aetna Casualty & Surety Insurance Company, then, Traveler’s Insurance Company and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company prior to enrolling at the Bates College of Law at the University of Houston. Bill Ogletree graduated from the University of Houston Law School in 1976, passed the Texas State Bar on his first attempt and was licensed to practice law on June 10, 1977. He immediately was appointed to represent indigent criminal defendants including a murder case.
After practicing criminal defense law Bill Ogletree joined the Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney’s Office in Beaumont, Texas where he began his career in the appellate section and advanced to Head of the Special Crimes Division of the District Attorney’s Office. In 1979 Bill Ogletree moved from the District Attorney’s Office to private practice.
Bill Ogletree is now senior partner in the firm of Ogletree Abbott Law Firm, L.L.P. The Ogletree Abbott Law Firm is one of the largest Workers’ Compensation law firms in the State of Texas and one of the leading national plaintiff trial law firms representing injured workers. Bill Ogletree has served on a number of state bar committees including the Advertising Review Committee and the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. Bill Ogletree was awarded the AV rating by the prestigious Martindale Hubbell Organization which indicates that Bill Ogletree is pre-eminent in his field of practice. Bill Ogletree is a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Texas Bar Association, Houston Bar Association and the American Bar Association
Bill Ogletree has written numerous publications including the topics Texas Workers Compensation, The Jones Act & Maritime Law, Auto Accidents and Personal Injury Law.
