Engine Failure - Ford and Mercury Secret Recall
The Ogletree Abbott Law Firm no longer handles these claims. In the event that you have reached this page, please click here to return to the home page.
Engine failure is a risk for some 1996 through 1999 Ford and Mercury vehicles. This is due to faulty engine front cover gaskets and lower intake manifold gaskets, which may fail, resulting in expensive repairs and engine replacements.
Evidence will show that Ford Motor Company knew about these gasket problems at least as early as December 1999, when it issued a notice to Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Dealerships. The dealerships were notified of the engine failures but not customers.
If you own or if you owned one of these vehicles and spent money on engine repair, you may be entitled to a cash settlement:
- Ford F-Series Trucks and Econoline Vans – 1997 through 1999 Ford F-Series trucks equipped with 4.2L engines.
- Ford Mustangs – 1996 and 1997 Mustangs equipped with 3.8L engines.
- Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar – 1996 and 1997 Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar vehicles equipped with 3.8L engines.
These vehicles are at risk of coolant leaks at the engine front cover gasket and the lower intake manifold gaskets. If not corrected, these vehicles are prone to overheating, coolant leaks, contamination of the engine oil by coolant and catastrophic engine failure.
