Fentanyl Recall Lawyer Information
Have You or a Loved One Suffered from Fentanyl Patch Use?
If you or a loved one has used a Fentanyl Patch to manage chronic pain, you could be in great danger.
Many of these patches are subject to recall due to various defects. If you think you have experienced
any adverse affects, you need to contact a Fentanyl recall lawyer as soon as possible.
These Fentanyl patches have also resulted in multiple wrongful deaths. In the event that a Fentanyl
Patch is responsible for taking away a loved one or close friend, you may be eligible for compensation
via Fentanyl lawsuit.
Basic Fentanyl Information
Fentanyl, also found in the brand name Duragesic, is a drug that provides pain relief and is only available
by prescription. You can take the drug by:
• Administering a skin patch, which lasts for 2-3 days (most common)
• Injecting it into a vein
• Swallowing it in pill form
• Or sucking on a grape-flavored cone attached to a stick
How does it work? It blocks certain pain receptors in both the spinal cord and the brain. Similar to
morphine and other drugs, this is anything but a mild painkiller. Instead, this is often used as the final
option for chronic pain–once all other painkilling medication has failed to do the job.
What is the Problem with Fentanyl Patches?
In order to dull extreme chronic pain, the drug must be extremely potent. And while it does its job
well, it comes along with plenty of side effects and a very real overdose danger. The medication must
be taken in a carefully controlled manner. Therein lies the problem with many of the Fentanyl patch
systems.
What people have experienced, and what you or a loved one may have felt firsthand, is that some of
these patches are flawed by design. While they are intended to release a controlled, steady flow of
medication, they can leak and end up administering dangerously large doses of the drug.
Manufacturers Have Recalled Many Fentanyl Patch Products
As more information comes out on the dangerous pharmaceutical, more and more manufacturers of
Fentanyl Pain Patches are pulling their products off the shelves of stores everywhere. A few examples
include:
• PriCara — On February 12, 2008, the company issued a press release stating they were recalling
all 25 microgram per hour Fentanyl Patches. Sold under the brand name Duragesic, these
patches were possibly cut along one side and could cause users direct exposure of the Fentanyl
gel. The press release warned that this could be fatal. It also gave instructions on immediate
actions to take if you had been exposed to the gel.
• Actavis Inc. — In the same month, Actavis Inc. recalled 14 lots of Fentanyl patches they had
sold in the United States. These patches were made by Corium International Inc., who was
contracted out by Actavis Inc. The reason? A defect in which the patch folds over and leaks extra
pain medication. This could lead to possible overdoes
• Were any deaths reported? Not necessarily in connection with the above recalls. However, the FDA has
since reported well over a 100 fatalities associated with defective Fentanyl patches.
Other Side Effects to Look Out For
Fentanyl has quite the rap sheet in respect to dangerous side effects. A few of these are:
• Euphoria
• Difficulty with urination and breathing
• Various skin reactions
• Constipation
• Drowsiness
• And many more
